Omar Abdullah’s words indicate that he wants to recover Article 370, and not only that. Opinion: Jammu and Kashmir assembly resolution on Article 370 is a half-hearted effort facing pressure from mehbooba mufti opnm1

The uproar continues in Jammu and Kashmir. BJP MLAs are protesting against the motion passed in the Assembly. They repeatedly try to remind and explain that Article 370 is now only a part of history and that its return is impossible, but the PDP seems to be even more aggressive against the ruling National Conference than the BJP.

Omar Abdullah’s political rival Mehbooba Mufti’s party fared poorly in the assembly elections, but is more aggressive against the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, and despite the resolution being passed Mehbooba Mufti, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, is trying to put Omar Abdullah in the dock over this issue.

Even after passing the Assembly resolution, Omar Abdullah’s attitude does not seem to be the same as Mehbooba Mufti’s tough temperament, questioning Omar Abdullah’s intentions while raising questions about the language of the resolution.

From the way Omar Abdullah has given clarifications after the passing of the resolution, it seems that he wants to keep Article 370 as an issue in Jammu and Kashmir as much as possible, and gain as much political benefit as possible. Perhaps he is also very aware of reality.

Why does the PDP oppose the government’s proposal?

PDP MLA Waheen Para had moved a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly demanding restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, which was abolished by the Central Government by scrapping Article 370. The next day, Deputy CM Surendra Kumar Chaudhary moved the proposal on behalf of the National Conference government, and it was also approved.

The use of words in the proposal of the Jammu and Kashmir government has also been done very carefully, in which the sentiments of the people of the state are specifically mentioned. This assembly has been said to ensure the importance of “special status of the State” and constitutional guarantees, thereby protecting the identity, culture and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The resolution charges that, without the consent of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the central government took “unilateral steps” by abrogating Article 370 and also abolishing statehood – and through the resolution, the government of Jammu and Kashmir – Kashmir wants the central government The government should take the path of “negotiation” while maintaining the sentiments of the people and “national unity.”

Unlike Omar Abdullah, the proposal by the MLA from Mehbooba Mufti’s party directly opposes the central government’s action and demands that everything go back to the way it was before. It has been clearly stated that the situation should be restored exactly as before.

Mehbooba Mufti now wants the Jammu and Kashmir government’s proposal to be amended and the points included in the PDP MLA’s proposal to be added, but Omar Abdullah flatly rejected the PDP leader’s demand, calling it a publicity stunt.

The Government’s proposal is a political statement by Omar Abdullah

Now it appears that Omar Abdullah, under pressure from the PDP, moved a resolution related to Jammu and Kashmir and got it. It is possible that if Mehbooba Mufti had not lobbied through the PDP MLA, Omar Abdullah’s proposal would have only talked about statehood. As he repeated during the elections, and for which Engineer Rashid, Baramulla MP, had attacked Omar Abdullah.

And if seen from Mehbooba Mufti’s point of view, the resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir government is just a formality. Even after the Assembly has passed the resolution, Omar Abdullah’s attitude does not seem to be as strict as that of Mehbooba Mufti, and this is the reason why Mehbooba Mufti also has the opportunity to question the language of Omar’s resolution Abdullah.

Even after passing the resolution, Omar Abdullah is giving clarifications and is trying to explain that he has no intention of direct confrontation with the central government. In fact, they want to keep Article 370 as an issue in Jammu and Kashmir under some pretext or the other, and are trying to exploit it politically as much as possible.
