The great revolutionary, social reformer and great devotee of God, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, was born in the year 1469 AD. C. in the house of father Mehta Kalu and mother Tripta in a village called Talwandi of Rai Bhoyi in Shekhupura district. This great man’s birthday on the full moon day of Kartik month is also known as Prakash Parv throughout India. It is a particularly sacred holiday for devout believers in Sikhism. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was kind, reclusive and contemplative from childhood. His approach was completely different from attachment to worldly business and pleasures.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who was spiritually inclined since childhood, was once sent by his father to do business after giving him some money, but seeing hungry sadhus on the way, he used that money to feed them. Guru Nanak Dev loved the company. of sadhus and saints Ji considered it excellent. For the welfare of the entire human race and the world, he imparted these three golden principles to the Sikh community: “Kirat Karana, Naam Chanpa, Vand Chhakna.” Doing Kirat means removing greed and avarice from the mind, working hard honestly and earning money and livelihood and dedicating it to the poor.
This spirit of work is also fundamental to the Sikh concept. To establish this teaching, Nanak ji preferred the dry and coarse food obtained through the hard work of a poor person to the luxurious food of a rich landowner. Chanting the name means singing, thinking and meditating on the name of the Lord with the soul at all times. Guru Nanak Ji has said that by thinking of the name of God one develops mental and spiritual powers. Which paves the way for divine devotion and happiness. While clarifying the stick-chakna, Nanak Dev Ji says that food should be eaten by sharing and sharing it without any discrimination in the society. This establishes mutual love, affection and harmony in society.
In Sikhism, special emphasis has been placed on remembering the name. The verses composed by the Guru are stored in Guru Granth Sahib. Nanak ji’s famous composition is Japuji Sahib, which has 38 verses. Describing the omnipresent divine form of God, Guru Nanak Ji writes in the Mool Mantra that: “Ek Omkar Satnaam Karta Purakh Nirbhaur Nirvair Akal Murat Ajooni Sabhang Guru Parsad Jap Aad Sach Jugaad Sach Hai Bhi Sach Nanak Hosi Bhi Sach” i.e. that God is Omkar. There is a form and He is the true form present in the entire universe and the creator of this universe. That God is free of time, of form, free of birth and death, He is the only eternal truth and God himself will remain an immutable truth.
On Brahma Muhurta, this sacred Mool Mantra is recited from every Gurudwara, listening to, contemplating and uttering it brings peace and spiritual joy. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s entire life was dedicated to the welfare of humanity. Despite following the religion of the head of the family, he was an embodiment of simplicity and was always absorbed in the company of saints and devotion to God. Guru Nanak Ji preached the essence of religion on foot in the country and abroad for about 22 years of his life. Nanak ji was a strong advocate of human sensitivity.
He believed that a society in which human feelings, affection, affection, love, peace and mutual brotherhood prevail, moves towards progress. He helped the poor and afflicted. He had immense devotion and affection for them in his heart. Guru Nanak ji was the main focal point for the upliftment of women. He protected the honor and self-respect of women and described them as great. Because it is through Matri Shakti that great scholars and kings were born in this land. His thought towards women was, “Then why should I be slow, Jin Jamhi Rajaan?”, that is, it is not appropriate to call a woman slow because she is slow. It gave rise to great kings, scholars, seekers and ascetics.
She deserves respect. Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached social unity. He did not accept the barriers of caste and caste. He said that every human being is a child of God, that is, the same divine element is present in every living being. Therefore, all human beings deserve the same respect. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, through his immortal teachings, removed the darkness of ignorance from the public mind in the medieval 15th century. The teachings of Jagat Guru Nanak, the master of Sikhism, inspire us to use the spiritual power derived from the knowledge of Brahma for the welfare of the people.
