A major Maoist conspiracy was exposed on Saturday ahead of the assembly elections in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. Police said a conspiracy to blow up Gadchiroli’s Paralkota bridge with an improvised explosive device has been exposed. The Maoists had plotted to blow up the security personnel along with the bridge, which was destroyed in time. Defusing the improvised explosive device also caused an explosion.

The Maoists plotted to blow up security personnel, including the Paralkota bridge. A police officer said they had received intelligence information in this regard. To create disturbances in the elections, the Maoists have planted some improvised explosive devices on the bridge over the Paralakota river connecting Bhamragarh and Tadgaon. Following this, a BDDS team was sent by helicopter from Gadchiroli.

An explosion while defusing an improvised explosive device

Police said after getting information about the placement of an improvised explosive device, the BDDS team arrived to destroy it. A joint team of Gadchiroli Police, CRPF and BSF searched the area, when the teams found 2 IEDs. As crews prepared to disable it, an improvised explosive device exploded. Meanwhile, the search for the third person continues. The search operation continues.

However, it was fortunate that the BDDS team did not suffer any losses due to the IED explosion. At the same time, the BDDS team present at the scene successfully destroyed an improvised explosive device. No member of the security forces has been injured. Additionally, the search for another improvised explosive device continues.

The police have thwarted the attempts of the Maoists.

Due to the surveillance of Gadchiroli police, the Maoists’ attempt to disrupt the assembly elections failed. The search operation continues. Police are conducting a search operation in the area for additional explosive devices (IEDs). Voting for the assembly elections will be held on November 20 for all seats in Maharashtra in a single phase. While the results will be known on November 23.
