Prime Minister Narendra Modi participates in the two-day G20 summit organized in Rio de Janeiro, capital of Brazil. During this time, he asked to prioritize the challenges of the Global South.
During his speech at the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Modi said that due to global conflicts, a food, fuel and fertilizer crisis has emerged, which has severely affected the countries of the Global South.
He also praised the president of Brazil as he began his speech on the first day of the G20 Summit. He said countries in the Global South have been greatly affected by the food, fuel and fertilizer crisis due to wars being fought on many fronts around the world. For this reason, we must prioritize the challenges of the countries of the Global South.
During this, Prime Minister Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 Summit and discussed ways to work together in areas such as space, energy and artificial intelligence. On the sidelines of the G20 summit, Prime Minister Modi met several heads of state, including Italy, Indonesia, Norway and Portugal, and discussed ways to further strengthen relations.
PM Modi also met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and discussed defence, trade and technology. Modi said in a social media post that it was a pleasure to meet his Italian counterpart Meloni on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. We discussed further cooperation in areas such as defence, technology and trade. We talked about increasing cooperation in culture, education and other sectors.

What is the Global South?
The world has been divided into two parts according to economic and social development. One is the Global North and the other is the Global South.
– The Global North includes developed and prosperous countries of the world such as the United States, Japan, Korea and European countries.
While in the Global South there are less developed or developing countries based on economic and social development. Includes countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
How many countries are there in the Global South?
There are around 100 countries in the Global South. This year, on January 12-13, India hosted a virtual summit called “Voice of the Global South.”
Representatives from more than one hundred countries participated in this summit. This was the first time that a conference of Global South countries was held on such a large scale.
– Currently India also has the President of the G-20. This is the first time that India has held the G-20 presidency. India will try to raise the issues of the Global South in the G-20.
