Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb says that after the successful use of artificial rain, the air quality in and around Lahore has improved. The Punjab government recently tested a locally developed technology to create artificial rain using “cloud seeding” technology in areas like Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Gujar Khan. According to the Meteorological Department, it rained in Jhelum and Gujar Khan during the test.

Pakistan appealed to the people

Aurangzeb emphasized that the effort is part of the broader “Detox Punjab” campaign aimed at reducing dangerous levels of smog, especially in Rawalpindi. A major campaign is underway in Lahore that includes banning vehicles from emitting smoke to improve air quality. The minister appealed to citizens to support the initiative to reduce smog. He said that citizen cooperation is necessary in the fight against air pollution.

AQI had crossed the 2000 mark in Pakistan

The AQI was recorded at 297 in Lahore, while in Multan it was recorded at 230. The Meteorological Department claims that northwesterly winds helped reduce the smog level, while Punjab Environment Minister Maryam Aurangzeb claims that the Use of artificial rain is also one of the reasons. He said the ban on large diesel-powered vehicles and smoke-emitting transport and brick factories will continue. The Punjab government on Monday ordered the reopening of schools across the province, except Lahore and Multan divisions, from November 19 in view of improving air quality. In fact, the AQI had crossed the 2000 mark in major cities like Lahore and Multan, which is why the provincial government has been forced to take many drastic measures, including imposing lockdowns and declaring a health emergency.

Grape-4 implemented in Delhi, pollution not reduced

Here, the country’s capital, Delhi, has become the most polluted city in the world. It has also left the city of Lahore in Pakistan behind and Grape-4 has been implemented in Delhi to reduce pollution. Despite this, pollution shows no signs of reducing. Schools and universities have been closed due to pollution in Delhi and NCR. JNU and DU have also been asked to conduct online classes till November 23. The Delhi Government and the Central Government are accusing each other, but at the moment no solution is in sight.

Is artificial rain the only solution in Delhi?

Delhi government minister Gopal Rai says experts have said there is no solution to pollution, you are asking questions. We have to do it and give permission to the central government, but the decision will be taken when there is a meeting. IIT Kanpur scientists will tell how it will be done, we will talk about the expenses, but we will not talk about the last two and a half months. Smog can only be removed by artificial rain or wind. The Center is yet to take action on the request of the Delhi government.

How does artificial rain occur?

For there to be artificial rain, there must be clouds that have moisture. For this, a little more pressure is used. The planting material is released into the clouds via airplanes or generators. This increases the size of the water droplets. As the size increases, the drops become heavy and then it starts to rain. Until now, countries such as the United States, China, Russia and Australia have been using this technology.
