Vatican City, Thursday, November 14, 2024 (REI): Pope Francis met with Her Excellency Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, at the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican on Thursday, November 14. Who later also met with the Cardinal Secretary of State of the Vatican, Pietro Parolin, and with the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of the Vatican, Miroslav Vachowski, respectively.
A statement issued by the Vatican Press Office states that satisfaction with the good relations between Barbados and the Holy See was expressed during cordial talks held at the Secretariat of State. The discussion then focused on some topics of mutual interest, such as caring for the common man and the impacts of climate change, as well as current socio-political issues of the country and the region.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of our mutual commitment to promoting the common interests of the people of Barbados.

Prime Minister Motley has come to the Holy See to participate in a conference organized by the Pontifical Academy for Life, entitled “The common good: principles and practice”. The event, scheduled for Friday afternoon, features a conversation between Motley and Mariana Mazzucato, professor of economics of innovation and public value. The dialogue will focus on how a new economy of the common good can help us take urgent and well-designed action on our economic and social problems related to the future of health, the environment (including biodiversity, climate and water) and artificial intelligence.
