Noida: A case of large-scale beef smuggling and storage has come to light in Noida, UP. Beef worth Rs 4 million was seized and destroyed. Upon confirmation of the problem, the police also arrested 5 people.
What’s the whole deal?
On November 9, at Luharli toll plaza in Dadri Kotwali area, some people stopped a truck coming from West Bengal and reported that it was carrying prohibited meat. Police stopped a truck and sent a sample of the meat inside for analysis. Police arrested five people after investigation confirmed that it was beef.
The people arrested by the police include the names of Puran Joshi, Khurshidun Nabi, Akshay Saxena, Shiv Shankar and Sachin, who are the owner, director, manager and truck driver of the cold store. Additional DCP said these people have been arrested on charges of smuggling and storing prohibited meat.
Shiv Shankar and Sachin had brought around 32 tonnes of meat in a truck from West Bengal. According to the information received, a sample was taken from the meat loaded on the truck and sent to the Mathura Laboratory for analysis. Following this, police raided SPJ Cold Storage Bisahada Road, Dadri. About 153 tons of prohibited meat in the packaging were recovered from chamber number 5 of the cold store, while about 32 tons of meat were found in the truck. Laboratory reports confirmed that the meat was beef. The estimated value of the seized meat is around Rs 4 million. The police destroyed the recovered meat on the spot.
Investigation of the case continues
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the administration has expedited the necessary legal actions. The whole matter is being investigated in depth. The accused continue to be interrogated and an investigation is underway as to where this meat was supplied. (Entry: Rahul Thakur)
