Tension has once again reached its peak following the abduction of six people from a relief camp in Manipur and the murder of three of them. People have taken to the streets to protest the incident. On Saturday, crowds became very violent in the capital Imphal. In Imphal on Saturday, protesters entered the residence of two ministers and three MLAs demanding justice in connection with the death of three people in Jiribam district. Following this incident, the Imphal West (district) administration imposed an indefinite curfew in the district.
According to PTI report, a senior official said the mob entered the residence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Sapam Ranjan in Lamphel Sanakethal area. On the other hand, protesters also attacked the house of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister L Susindro Singh. Some people entered the house. At the same time, they gathered in front of the residence of BJP MLA RK Imo and raised slogans. Imo is also the son-in-law of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Protesters insist on arresting the accused
Protesters are demanding that the government take appropriate measures following the death of three people and demand that the authorities arrest the culprits within 24 hours. An official said the protesters on Tiddim Road reached independent Keshamthong MLA Sapam Nishikant Singh’s residence but were told that the MLA was not in the state. They then attacked the office building of a local newspaper they owned.
He said three bodies were recovered near the confluence of Jiri and Barak rivers on the Manipur-Assam border on Friday night. These three bodies are suspected to be those of three of the six people missing in Jiribam district. Of the three people whose bodies were found, the bodies of a woman and two children were found.
Mizoram government issued an advisory to the people of the state
At the same time, the Mizoram government has urged the people of the state to exercise caution following rising tension and violence in Manipur. The Mizoram Home Department issued a statement asking the people of Manipur to avoid actions that may lead to communal incidents within the state. More than 10 people died last week in Jiribam district of Manipur. Jiribam district shares border with Mizoram.
The Home Department statement also emphasized that the government will take measures for the safety of Mizo citizens, students and migrant workers living outside Mizoram, especially in Manipur. The state government expressed grief over the recent violence in Manipur and extended condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the violence.
