Breaking News from Punjab (Aaj Samaj), Chandigarh: State Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said there has been a 5% increase in sugarcane acreage in Punjab this year. This year, sugarcane has been cultivated on an area of one lakh hectares, compared to 95,000 hectares last year. He said there are a total of 15 sugar mills in Punjab, including 9 cooperative and 6 private mills, which have the potential to crush around 700 lakh quintals of sugarcane.

He said production of 62 lakh quintals of sugar is estimated in the state for this season. Further, the Agriculture Minister announced that this year the Punjab Government decided to start sugarcane crushing in the state from November 25, 2024. Minister of Agriculture gave instructions to complete all necessary procedures
The Agriculture Minister instructed the officials concerned that all arrangements must be completed before harvesting begins. He stressed that farmers should not face any problem in selling their crops and should be ensured timely payment for their crops.
