45 candidates, including three women, are in the running

Of the four assembly constituencies, Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak and Chabbewal were earlier held by the Congress and the Barnala seat was represented by AAP MLAs. Officials on Tuesday said 45 candidates, including three women, are in the fray for the by-elections, with 6.96 lakh voters eligible to exercise their right to vote at 831 polling stations. He said more than 6,400 personnel of Punjab Police and 17 companies of Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed to ensure peaceful elections.

The fate of these VIP candidates will be decided

Among the prominent candidates whose fate will be decided in the by-elections are BJP candidates and former Punjab Finance Ministers Manpreet Singh Badal, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Sohan Singh Thandal and Ravikaran Singh Kahlon; Amrita Wadding of Congress, Jatinder Kaur and Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon and Dr Ishank Kumar Chabbewal of AAP.
