Rice procurement in Punjab crosses 100 lakh metric tonnes
22,047 million rupees given to farmers for payment of crops
Punjab CM News (Aaj Samaj), Chandigarh: Procurement of paddy continues uninterrupted in the state. The produce is purchased from the farmers and at the same time the price of that produce is given to them without delay. Rice procurement in Punjab has crossed the 100 lakh metric tonne mark. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has set a new record by ensuring uninterrupted procurement of paddy.
It may be noted that during this procurement season, 185 lakh metric tonnes of rice are likely to reach the state’s mandis. This time, the area under paddy cultivation in the state was 32 lakh hectares, making a major contribution to the central grain stock. The Reserve Bank of India has already released a cash credit limit (CCL) of Rs 41,378 crore during the Kharif marketing season 2024-25.

Patiala tops rice arrivals
The Chief Minister, who continuously monitored the procurement and lifting operations in the state, personally ensured smooth procurement and lifting of each and every grain from the farmers in the mandis. According to the data of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, till November 5 (Tuesday), 110.89 lakh metric tonnes of rice reached the mandis of the state, of which 105.09 lakh metric tonnes were purchased from the harvest.

Rs 22,047 crore has been released for payment of crops. So far, Patiala district is at the forefront of rice arrival where 9.42 lakh metric tonnes of the crop has been achieved. It is followed by Firozpur (8.14 LMT), Tarn Taran (7.26 LMT), Jalandhar (7.16 LMT) and Sangrur (7.10 LMT).
During this, the Chief Minister reiterated the strong commitment of the state government to protect the interests of farmers. Bhagwant Singh Mann said the state government will spare no effort to ensure uninterrupted procurement of rice in Punjab. He informed that 2,651 mandis have been established across the state for the purchase of rice.
