This was stated by DGP Gaurav Yadav, who gave detailed information to journalists about the actions taken by the state police from January 1 to October.

During this, the DGP said that in the last 10 months, Punjab Police registered 7,686 FIRs and arrested 10,524 drug peddlers, including 153 big smugglers. It may be noted that the Punjab Police has adopted a multi-pronged approach to tackling the drug problem: apart from cracking down on big smugglers, it has also targeted small-scale drug peddlers in villages and towns.

790 kg of heroin recovered in 10 months
Giving details of drug recovery so far in 2024, DGP Gaurav Yadav said police teams have recovered 790 kg of heroin across the state by conducting blockades on possible drug routes and carrying out search operations in the affected areas. . Apart from heroin, police teams also recovered 860 kg of opium, 367 quintals of bhukki, 93 kg of charas, 724 kg of ganja, 19 kg of ICE and Rs 2.90 crore worth of pills/capsules/vaccines/vials. He said police also seized drug money worth Rs 13.62 million in the possession of drug smugglers arrested this year.
The DGP said that since January 1, 2024, Punjab Police has seized properties worth Rs 208 million from 362 big smugglers, while 470 cases related to seizure of properties worth Rs 289 million are pending. approval from the competent authority.
