Punjab News (Aaj Samaj), Chandigarh: State Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said Lala Lajpat Rai ji sacrificed his life in the freedom struggle. Every Indian is proud of the sacrifice and struggle of Lala Lajpat Rai and all the freedom fighters, thanks to whom we breathe the air of freedom today. He said that while Lala Lajpat Rai ji was a great freedom fighter, he is also known as a pioneer leader of the Swadeshi movement. The Finance Minister spoke as chief guest yesterday on the occasion of the 96th day of martyrdom of Lala Lajpat Rai ji.

Rs 25 lakh released for development works
Meeting the demands of the villagers and the Panchayat, Finance Minister Harpal Singh announced the release of Rs 25 lakh for various development works of the village. These development works include Rs 10 lakh for 4 new parks and gymnasiums, Rs 10 lakh for Lala Lajpat Rai Birthplace Memorial Committee and Rs 5 lakh for Desh Bhagat Sports Club. Furthermore, the minister immediately approved the requirement to install a waste treatment plant in the town.
On this occasion, MLA Nihal Singh Wala S. Manjeet Singh Bilaspur said that the land of Dhuddike is fortunate, where Lala ji and many other freedom fighters were born. He said his contribution to the freedom struggle can never be forgotten. This inspires today’s young generation to maintain the spirit of patriotism. After this, he also offered flower garlands at the monument built in memory of other martyrs of the town. Finally, the Lala Lajpat Rai Birthplace Memorial Committee also honored notable personalities.
