Chandigarh (Aaj Samaj)With an aim to eradicate child marriage, oath will be administered via webcast link for the Free Child Marriage Campaign across Punjab on Wednesday. Expressing this, Punjab Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that the objective of this initiative is to eliminate child marriage in the state.
These included women self-help groups, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and assistants, ANMs, child marriage prevention officers, local community leaders, teachers, school and college students, elected representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions, urban locals, community health professionals. An appeal has been made to primary care centers, doctors, members of civil society organizations, members of state and district bar councils, legal services authorities and religious leaders.
Dr. Baljeet Kaur has emphasized the importance of collective efforts from all sections of the society for this study to be successful. He called on elected representatives, healthcare workers, teachers and students to raise awareness against child marriage. Expressing her commitment to achieving the objectives of AIDYAAN, Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that a child marriage free state is not just a vision but a necessity for the overall development of our children and society.
He called on all stakeholders to actively participate in this landmark study and contribute to building a bright future for the youth. He said that according to Chief Minister Agwant Singh Mann’s dream, the state should become Rangla Punjab. He said this can only happen when we all work together to eliminate a social evil like child marriage. He said that the Punjab government is making continuous efforts to stop this evil practice of child marriage.
