BSF wins 32nd Dashmesh Hawks All India Hockey Festival
Punjab (Aaj Samaj) News Update, Chandigarh: Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains attended the closing ceremony of the 32nd Dashmesh Hawks All India Hockey Festival held at Hawks Stadium, Rupnagar as the chief guest. During this event, he honored the winning teams with cash prizes. Addressing the youth present during the programme, the Cabinet Minister appealed to them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The minister said the young generation should include sports in their daily routine to adopt a healthy lifestyle. To meet this goal, the Hawks Club has been playing an important role in connecting the region’s young people with sport for the last 50 years.
Cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakh awarded to the winning team
On this occasion, he gave a prize of Rs 1.25 lakh to the winning BSF team and Rs 75 lakh to the runner-up CRPF team. Harjot Singh Bains said that the efforts of Advocate SS Saini, General Secretary, in organizing the national level hockey tournament and continuing this tournament are highly commendable. He praised S. Hardeep Singh Cheema, MD, Cheema Boilers for his contribution in organizing the event and awarding the prize money.

Sharing information about promotion of sports in Rupnagar district, he said that an artificial turf hockey field is being constructed at Adarsh School in Lodhipur at a cost of Rs 2.5 million. Apart from this, a national level shooting range is being constructed at Sri Anandpur Sahib, an artificial turf football field at Kiratpur Sahib, a full length indoor swimming pool at Nangal and a modern swimming pool at Rupnagar. He said that, impressed by the inspiring initiative of the Hawks Club, he had already given a grant of Rs 10 lakh and more grants would be given soon if required.
