Assembly elections will be held in Maharashtra. The model code of conduct for assembly elections came into force on October 15. Even before the elections, police officers are being hastily transferred. In this case, 28 police officers were also transferred on Thursday. Of them, 15 are from Mumbai. Where hundreds of transfers are happening in Maharashtra. At the same time, Congress is adamant on the demand to remove Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla, leading Congress leader Nana Patole on Thursday to demand the Election Commission of India to remove DGP Rashmi Shukla due to the assembly elections on November 20. He wrote a letter to ECI and alleged that Rashmi Shukla is a controversial officer. Nana Patole wrote that Rashmi Shukla had sided with the BJP and in such a situation, her continuation in office would raise questions about fair elections in Maharashtra.
Ignored Congress’ Demand
Nana Patole said the Election Commission had ignored the Congress’ demand to remove Shukla, but the Election Commission accepted a similar demand by the BJP to remove police officers from opposition-ruled West Bengal and Jharkhand, a country heading to the polls. He said the Congress had written letters on September 24 and October 4 demanding Shukla’s removal and when ECI officials visited Mumbai on September 27, a party delegation also reiterated this demand.

“Rashmi Shukla’s point of view is controversial”
Congress leader Nana Patole alleged that the police commissioner and district police officers had been ordered to register cases against opposition leaders and harass them. The police machinery puts pressure on the opposition leaders and workers and also threatens them. Rashmi Shukla’s point of view has also been controversial earlier. She was involved in wiretapping of opposition leaders and cases were registered against her.
“It is necessary to withdraw the controversial DGP”
Not only this, he further wrote that after the BJP came to power, Shukla was appointed to the post of DGP and even after his retirement, his tenure was wrongly extended. For a fair and good electoral environment, it is necessary to remove controversial DGP Rashmi Shukla, who is helping the ruling party. The Election Commission should take immediate action against him.
