The Rajasthan government’s Hotel Khadim, which has been the identity of Ajmer for over four decades, will now be known as Ajaymeru. The BJP government has issued an order to rename this government hotel from the Rajasthan Tourism Department. BJP leaders had long been demanding that the name of this 45-year-old government hotel in Ajmer be changed.

On Monday, RTDC CEO Sushma Arora ordered to reveal his name. After which the district administration announced the name change. The management says the new name of the hotel will reflect the glorious heritage and culture of Ajmer.

Khadim means servant, and is named after the Sufi saint of Ajmer, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Ajmer North MLA and Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani had demanded that his name be changed and retained as Ajaymeru. Ajaymeru means that strong mountain that cannot be conquered. This city is also said to have been colonized by Ajayraj Chauhan in the 7th century.

The BJP’s long-standing demand has been that Ajmer should be called Ajaymeru. They claim that during the time of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, his name was Ajaymeru but the Muslim attackers changed his name. It is worth noting that recently the BJP government in Jaipur has changed the Muslim names of more than a dozen localities, roads and squares.

We tell you that before changing the name of the hotel for the first time, the government has been continuously changing the names of many cities in the country for some time. Just two months ago, the Government of India had renamed Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The government has changed the name of Port Blair to ‘Sri Vijayapuram’. Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed about this in a tweet.
