Where and how did the controversy begin?
Voting for the by-elections took place on November 14 in 7 seats in Rajasthan. During the afternoon voting, Naresh Meena, independent candidate in Samravata from Deoli-Uniara assembly, suddenly arrived at the polling booth. He was trying to force his way into the polling station. When the administration and police personnel tried to stop him, he got into a fight with them.
Naresh Meena alleged that his electoral symbol had been too light in the EVM. Due to this, their voters face difficulties in voting. Along with this, Naresh Meena said that the people of this village are demanding to change the sub-division headquarters. That is why they have boycotted the vote, but administrative officials force people to vote by threatening them. This discussion turned into a slap in the face.
Why did Congress expel Naresh Meena?
Naresh Meena was previously leader of the Congress Party. But when he contested the by-election as an independent from Deoli-Uniara seat, the Congress expelled Naresh Meena from the party with immediate effect. The Congress named KC Meena as its official candidate from the Deoli-Uniara seat, while Naresh Meena was also seeking a nomination from the same seat. The party had also warned him to withdraw his nomination. But the king did not listen to him. So Congress expelled him from the party.
Even before this, Naresh Meena had rebelled against the Congress. Naresh, who contested in the 2023 assembly elections, had contested from the Chhabra seat. After this, he was expelled from the party for six years by Rajasthan Congress leader Sukhwinder Singh Randhawa. But he returned to the party during the Lok Sabha elections. He had also decided to contest as an independent candidate in the Lok Sabha elections, but was later convinced by the party leaders.
Close contest for Devli-Uniara seat
The results of the by-elections held for seven seats will be known on November 23. Deoli-Uniara seat has the maximum number of voters of 3.02 lakh. In the by-elections being held for 7 seats, 69 candidates are at stake. The results of the by-elections will decide the political narrative of both the government and the opposition. There is a tight race for the Deoli-Uniara seat.
The Deoli-Uniara seat fell vacant after Congress MP Harish Chandra Meena became MP from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur. The Congress has appointed KC Meena to this post. While BJP has given entry to former MLA Rajendra Gurjar. Naresh Meena is contesting the elections as an independent candidate as a Congress rebel.
