Rules of the month of Margashirsha
Margshirsha Rules: The month of Margashirsha is considered very important and significant in the Hindu religion. It is the ninth month of the Hindu calendar. According to Hindu scriptures, there is no month greater than Margashirsha – “Masonam Margashirshoham”. Lord Shri Krishna and Goddess Lakshmi are worshiped throughout this month. There is a religious belief that offering tarpan to ancestors during the month of Margashirsha brings peace to their souls. They also achieve salvation. According to the Vedic calendar, this year the month of Margashirsha started on November 16 and this month will end on December 15.
According to religious beliefs, the month of Margashirsha is related to Shri Krishna. In this month, by doing chants, penance and meditation, success is achieved and bad tasks are rectified. This month, there is a tradition of worshiping Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi on Thursday. Worshiping Shri Hari and Lakshmi ji on Thursday of the month of Margashirsha increases wealth. The month of Margashirsha is considered the best to receive the blessings of Lord Krishna. Some tasks are prohibited in the month of Margashirsha. What should be done in the month of Margashirsha?
- Get up early in the morning and take bath in the Ganges River or at home.
- Offer Arghya to the Sun God and start the day in the name of God.
- Recite Vishnusahastra Nama, Bhagwat Geeta and Gajendramoksha in the month of Margashirsha.
- Lord Krishna, Sri Hari and Maa Lakshmi should be worshiped in this month.
- After bathing, have a Brahmin perform Pitru Tarpan and Pitru Puja.
- In this month, feed the Brahmins with food and give them clothing and donations.
- One should eat satvika food throughout this month.
- Bathing in Narmada, Shipra and Yamuna in this month is considered virtuous.
- It is very auspicious to feed cows, crows, dogs and ants in the month of Margashirsha.
- Doing charity and good deeds throughout this month is considered extremely virtuous.
- This month, blankets and warm clothing should be donated.
- In this month, conch worship, bhajan-kirtan and worship recitation have special significance.
- Donating food this month is considered a virtuous act.
- In this month, offer basil leaves to Shri Krishna and Lord Vishnu.
- In this month, recite Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta and also chant the mantras of Lord Krishna.
What should not be done in the month of Margashirsha?
- Eating and drinking tamasic things should be avoided throughout this month.
- Anger, arrogance and harsh words should not be used in the month of Margashirsha.
- Lies, deceit and deception should be avoided in this month.
- Cumin should not be consumed in the month of Margashirsha.
