On Friday, on the occasion of the 555th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Book Club of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector-32, organized a sapling donation drive for the third consecutive year under the Green Initiative. During this campaign, 555 saplings were donated to the city’s population, including children and senior citizens, from 6.30 to 9.30 am at the city’s Sukhna Lake. This initiative was launched in 2022 for the protection of the environment and the well-being of the community. This plant donation campaign had a double objective. The first objective was to pay homage to the teachings and legacy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the second objective was to address the important issue of environmental protection by involving the community in the plant donation drive. By distributing 555 saplings, the Book Club aimed to inspire environmental awareness and promote sustainable and ecological living within the community.
This plant donation drive was inaugurated by the college principal Dr. Ajay Sharma. He appreciated the thoughtful effort made by the Book Club. Apart from this, he expressed his gratitude to the club members for their commitment to celebrate the 555th Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in a unique and impressive manner. He highlighted the need to create awareness to save the environment and said that in view of the current circumstances it is necessary to preserve the environment and at the same time it is also necessary to revitalize nature. He expressed his gratitude to the Book Club coordinator, Dr. Gurpreet Singh, and the Book Club for their strong support and encouragement. He also called on the people present at the lake to protect and care for nature.
Club Coordinator and College Librarian Dr. Gurpreet Singh appreciated the enthusiastic efforts of the students and also expressed gratitude to Principal Dr. Ajay Sharma for his support and encouragement. He said that by distributing saplings, the Book Club aimed to inspire a sense of environmental awareness among the public. In a campaign aimed at promoting eco-consciousness, a variety of beneficial plants including Koilash, snake plant, lemongrass, celery, tulsi, hibiscus and insulin plant were donated. The plant donation campaign is part of the Book Club’s commitment to inspire environmental awareness within the community and foster a shared commitment to preserving our planet for future generations.
Gurupurva celebrated with reverence and devotion in the school.
The 555th Gurupurab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was celebrated with reverence and devotion at GGDSD College. The university community came together to honor the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, emphasizing the values of compassion, unity and selfless service. The celebrations began with the recitation of Sukhmani Sahib, followed by Ardaas and prayers for peace and prosperity for all. A moving Shabad Kirtan performed by the Ragis of Gurdwara Sri Nada Sahib enthralled everyone and a speech highlighted the profound messages of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, encouraging all present to embrace the principles of peace and harmony. GGDSD College Principal Dr. Ajay Sharma, while addressing the gathering, expressed his views on the relevance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings in today’s world. Finally the langar was organized.
