Sambalpur: A shocking case has come to light in Sambalpur district of Odisha. Apparently, a newborn baby was stolen from a hospital here in the presence of his family members. Giving information in this regard, the police on Wednesday said that four teams have been formed to trace the woman who stole the child. He said police officers were checking buses and trains. Police said this newborn baby was stolen from Sambalpur VIMSAR Government Hospital. The woman who stole the child is said to have developed a lot of contact with the child’s family.

‘The child was born on Monday’

Giving information about the entire case, police said that this child belongs to a couple from Mahasamund district of neighboring Chhattisgarh state. Police quoted the complaint as saying, “The child was born in the hospital on Monday.” The robbery incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the boy’s parents handed him over to a relative and went for a walk. The missing boy’s aunt told police she had given him to a woman who was previously sitting near his bed. Police said ‘CCTV footage’ showed an unidentified woman taking the boy out of hospital.

“I hope to meet the newborn baby soon.”

Explaining more about the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police Haresh Chandra Pandey said, “We have formed 4 teams to trace the woman who stole the child.” All checkpoints have been informed of this and the police are checking buses and trains. The girl’s mother told police that an unknown woman used to approach her and ask about her well-being. VIMSAR director Bhabagrahi Rath said he is hopeful of finding the newborn baby soon. He urged patients not to allow any stranger near their beds. (Language)
