Shrimad Bhagwat Purana is the fifth Purana among the eighteen Puranas written by Ved Vyas. In Bhagwat, there is the first Mahatmya Katha and it is in six chapters under Padmapuran, similarly in Skandha Purana there is Mahatmya Katha in four chapters.
Acharya Chaitanya ji said that in Mahatmya Katha, first the story of devotion-knowledge-dispassion, in the second part the story of Atmadev-Gokarna-Dhundhakari, then in the third part the rules of the speaker-hearer of Bhagwat Katha along with the rules . and the regulations for composing Bhagwat Katha were explained.
Acharya Sanatan Chaitanya Ji Maharaj said that Bhagwat is made up of four letters Bha-Ga-Va-Ta. The four letters indicate something and that is the theme of Bhagwat. From Bha to Bhakti, we come to know the nature of devotion. Bhagwat, Ga. From Gyan we come to know what is actually called knowledge, from Vairagya Bhagwat we come to know the true meaning of Vairagya and from the fourth word Ta, that is, we get knowledge about the element of God.
