- Mandi workers are worried about being given 24 to 36 hours of work, they said, there is chaos in the market, how to work.
- Three demands submitted to the committee and the commission agents’ association, if not met, no work will be done in the grain market.
(Sirsa News) Sirsa. Frustrated by having to work 24 hours a day at the grain market for decades, market workers created a ruckus outside the Market Committee office on Thursday. The angry workers stopped their work, surrounded the market committee and raised slogans. Subsequently, the workers submitted a memorandum to the Secretary of the Market Committee demanding to fix the schedule of all market operations. Market workers claim that until the Market Committee and Arhtiya Association meet their written demands, the entire grain market will remain closed indefinitely.
Grain market workers say they are forced to work 24 to 36 hours. Meanwhile, there are not even measures to rest. Workers are forced to work like robots, while the government and management say workers should be forced to work only eight hours. While the Market Committee and the Brokers Association are not taking any steps in this direction.
That is why the grain market workers strongly condemn the market committee. Workers say that loading work should be completely restored in the market and that loading work should be carried out from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. In addition, the circulation hours of carts in the grain market must be set between 4:00 and 11:00 and carts must not be parked on the street outside the yellow strip installed in the grain market. This will make the work of the workers easier. The third demand of market workers is that they be forced to work from 6:30 in the morning until 9:30 at night. There should be a siren system with fixed hours under all the market sheds so that the workers finish their work after the time is up.
Workers’ health is deteriorating
Mandi Laborers and Grain Market Laborers Welfare Society say the health and mental balance of workers are deteriorating as they are forced to work 24 hours a day. Workers get sick every day. The society says that if the administration and the commission agents exert any kind of pressure on the workers, the market workers will protest.
The market’s lifting system is completely broken.
Pawan Kumar, an official of the Mandi Mazdoor union, says the lifting system at the grain market has completely broken down. So the workers are very upset. They can’t find even a small space to work. The commission agents tell the farmers to bring the car. While the truth is that there is no place to even set foot in the cereal market. Workers have to lift bags from half a kilometer and load them into vehicles. The Market Committee is not doing its job well. For this reason, today the workers have expressed their protest by stopping their work.
The workers’ problems are quite old.
The workers say that, like today, tomorrow the entire grain market will also remain completely closed. The workers will not do any work. Worker Ram Pravesh says this problem of workers is very old. Mandi workers have brought their issues to the attention of the Market Committee many times, but the issue has not been resolved till date. Every time during the season, the Market Committee officials say that the workers will not be able to face any problem, but the problem remains the same.
