Rules and importance of fasting on Monday: In the Hindu religion, each day of the week is dedicated to some god or goddess. Monday is believed to be the day of Lord Bholenath. On this day, worshiping Bholenath according to rituals and fasting brings happiness and prosperity to the house and alleviates the problems of life. Worshiping Lord Shiva on Monday is believed to produce the desired results. If possible, go to a temple on that day and offer water or milk to Shivalinga. Worship of Mother Parvati along with Mahadev is also considered fruitful and auspicious. But it is also necessary to avoid some mistakes during fasting on Monday.
Monday fasting rules
- On Monday, get up before dawn, shower, and wear clean clothes. After this, resolve to fast.
- After this offer of water at Shivalinga. Keep in mind that in the pot in which you keep the water, also add a little Ganges water.
- After offering water, offer milk, curd and honey in Shivalinga. Along with this, also offer jasmine flowers to Lord Shiva. This is believed to bring happiness and prosperity to the house.
- After the puja, light a lamp near the Shivling and perform the aarti of Goddess Parvati and Bholenath with it.
- After the Aarti, do the circumambulation of the temple, but keep in mind that you never complete the circumambulation.
- Stop at the place from where the milk of Shivalinga flows and return.
- On this day, the fasting person should eat only one meal every three hours.
Bholenath Cult Rules
- Before worshiping, purify yourself by washing your hands and feet and do not wear dirty or black clothing. Keep your mind pure and stay away from negative thoughts.
- Don’t bypass the Shivling completely, go to Jaladhari and back. Crossing the water tank is considered inauspicious.
- Do not offer basil, vermilion, turmeric, red flowers, etc. in Shivling and it is prohibited to offer milk in a copper container.
- During fasting, do not consume meat, alcohol, garlic, onion, etc. and do not eat strange or impure foods.
- Avoid lying and control your anger. Apart from this, do not commit theft or any type of crime.
- Do not cause pain or discomfort to anyone else and avoid sleeping during the day. Apart from this, stay away from lust and abandon ego during fasting.

Some mistakes in worshiping Lord Shiva may prove unfavorable for you. During the puja, don’t even forget to offer flowers like Malti, Champa, Jasmine, Ketaki, etc. to Shivling. Conch shells and kartal should not be used in the worship of Bholeneeth. Shami patra and bel patra should be offered face down on the Shivalinga and the thick stems behind them should also be broken. While doing the parikrama, keep in mind that you have to complete the parikrama halfway and return from the place from where the Shivalinga water flows.
