Sonipat News (Aaj Samaj) Sonipat: The district councilors and block committee members of Sonipat have gone on a 72-hour hunger strike, accusing the functioning of the Panchayat department and the officials of the department of corruption. The hunger striking members said that it has been more than two years since he was elected, but till date he has not been able to carry out any development work at his level. Officers use their own will in every job. Their rights have also been limited.
At his level he cannot put a single brick in any town. He said that when the Zilla Parishad and the Block Committee do not have the power to do the work, then the government should close both institutions. He said that if the government does not close these institutions then their rights should be increased. Councilor Sanjay Barwasni said that despite being the largest Panchayati Raj institution, the government has not given any rights to the ward councilor and block committee members. He has demanded that a District Planning Committee be formed. So that the District Councilor has more strength. Due to lack of its own budget, today it cannot carry out development work in the town.
Get the power to take jobs up to Rs 50 lakh at your own level
He said that apart from the District Councilor Fund, Rs 1 crore should be released every year to the block committee members and Rs 50 lakh should be released every year to carry out development works at their level.
