The return of the most anticipated Team India player since last year has finally arrived. Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler Mohammed Shami has managed to return to the cricket field after 360 days. Shami returned for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy Group C match against Madhya Pradesh.
Shami has been away from the fields since the 2023 World Cup final last year due to injury. Shami suffered an ankle injury for which he had to undergo surgery. Since then, he was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy i.e. NCA in Bengaluru. Although he reported about his fitness a few days ago, he was later not selected in the Indian team for the Australia tour. Now Shami returned to competitive cricket through the Ranji Trophy, but he couldn’t do anything special.
Shami disappointed on the first day
In fact, Mohammed Shami bowled 10 overs on the first day of the match against Madhya Pradesh but could not take a single wicket. The result was that Madhya Pradesh strengthened its position after the first day of play. After bowling Bengal’s innings for 228 runs, Madhya Pradesh scored 103 runs for one wicket at the end of the day’s play. Bengal need to win this match to stay in the race for the quarter-finals.
Shami hit three fours and conceded 16 runs in his first spell of four overs. His second spell of 6 overs was more impressive. In this he spent 18 runs with a maiden. The BCCI and people associated with the Indian team will monitor Shami’s physical condition. With a good performance in the domestic matches, he is likely to return to the team for the next matches of the Border-Gavaskar Test series.
Hoping for better performance on the second day.
Shami was seen playing with his younger brother Mohammad Kaif for the first time in a Ranji match. Kaif took the only wicket that fell in the Madhya Pradesh innings. He dismissed opener Himanshu Mantri for 13 runs. Madhya Pradesh second opener Shubhranshu Senapati is present at the crease after scoring 44 runs in 103 balls and Indian batsman Rajat Patidar is present at the crease after scoring 41 runs in 55 balls.
