NCP leader Sunil Tingre, led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, linked to the Pune Porsche case, lost to NCP candidate (Sharad Pawar) Bapu Saheb Pathare from Vadgaon Sheri by a margin of 4,710. votes. Tingre was the MLA sitting from this seat and his name also appeared in the Porsche accident. The accident took place earlier this year when a 17-year-old minor, driving a Porsche, ran over two IT professionals, Anish Awadiya and Ashwini Koshta (24). They were both riding bicycles.
He had registered a victory against the BJP in 2019.
Sunil Tingre had reportedly reached a police station in Pune, where the minor and the driver were taken after the incident. He was accused of saving a minor. The NCP leader denied such allegations and was questioned by the police in relation to the matter. In the 2019 assembly elections, Tingre won the seat by defeating BJP candidate Jagdish Malik by a margin of 4,975 votes.
Mahayuti has surpassed the majority mark
The NCP is part of the Mahayuti alliance that came to power in Maharashtra easily surpassing the majority mark of 145 votes. The BJP won 132 seats, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won 57 seats. The NCP was reduced to 41 seats. On the other hand, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which was hoping to cash in on its impressive performance in the Lok Sabha elections, suffered a humiliating defeat. Shiv Sena (UBT) won only 20 seats, followed by Congress with 16 and Sharad Pawar’s NCP with 10 seats.
