New Delhi. All eyes were on the Supreme Court over the case of six chief parliamentary secretaries (CPS) in Himachal Pradesh. The state government challenged the High Court’s cancellation of CPS appointments, for which an online petition was filed. Now, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed the disqualification of six principal parliamentary secretaries of Himachal Pradesh appointed by the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu-led state government.
The court stayed the Himachal Pradesh High Court’s direction declaring unconstitutional the power to appoint chief parliamentary secretaries and parliamentary secretaries in the state.
A bench comprising Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar said no further action would be taken on the Himachal Pradesh High Court order canceling the appointment of six MLAs as chief parliamentary secretaries. However, the court also made it clear that the state government would not make any further appointments as it would be contrary to the law.
The top court also issued notice to BJP leader Kalpana Devi, who moved a motion in the High Court against the appointment of chief parliamentary secretaries, seeking her response within two weeks and listing the matter after four weeks. The matter has been attached with the petitions pending in the high court on this issue.
