Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Bihar government is continuously making progress in the field of sports. To promote sports in the state, sports facilities are being developed as per international standards. This effort of the government is helping the young players of Bihar to make a career in sports along with their studies, so that the youth of Bihar can also bring glory to the state at the international level.

At the Bihar State Sports Honor Ceremony organized every year, players and their coaches who have performed excellently at international, national and local levels are honoured. At this ceremony, players receive a mention and a cash prize. In addition, people who have made significant contributions to the development of the sport are also honored.

It is also being organized this year. But this time the state government has increased the fees to Rs 5 crore, so that people can get more inspiration from sports. Javelin throw coach Ashutosh of Jamui has been honored this year. Ashutosh has trained many promising athletes in collaboration with the State Sports Authority and has himself won gold medals at the national level.

Also honored at this ceremony were Virendra Yadav, who won the national level gold in javelin throw, and Ashish Kumar, who won the gold medal in menace throw. Bihar has become the first state to honor Indian hockey’s best goalkeeper Sreejesh after winning a medal at the Olympics, which has boosted the morale of the players here. A total of 615 players from 33 sports, 21 coaches, four sports assistants and four sports officials have been honored at the Bihar Sports Honor Ceremony. During this period, fees worth approximately Rs 7.5 million were distributed.

Last year, in 2023, a total of 411 players, including 11 coaches, were honored at this ceremony. Currently, honor money worth Rs 15.5 million has been distributed to 1,272 players. The state government is fully committed to the promotion of the sport and is making positive efforts for the advancement of the players keeping in mind their success. To further promote the sport, players are given jobs under the state government’s Bring Medal-Get Job programme. Players receive financial assistance from this plan.
