The competition between families in the Maharashtra elections, somewhere between husband and wife, somewhere between uncle and nephew, will clash in many seats.

The assembly elections to be held on November 20 in all 288 seats of Maharashtra will see interesting contests in some seats due to dynasty politics. Members of many families are competing with each other in the electoral arena, adding a new chapter of feuds and competition between relatives in politics.

Pawar Family High Profile Pageant

This is not the first time in the political history of Maharashtra that there is an electoral contest between the Pawar family. This time, Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP candidate Yugendra Pawar is contesting against his uncle and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar from the Baramati Assembly seat. Ajit Pawar, who has been MLA from Baramati seven times, is trying his best to maintain his political hold on this seat. This is the second time that two family members will clash in Baramati, the Pawar family stronghold. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar was defeated by her sister-in-law Supriya Sule from the Baramati parliamentary seat, bringing an even more interesting twist to politics in the family.

Ajit Pawar’s nephew also in the electoral race

Apart from this, another nephew of Ajit Pawar, Rohit Pawar, grandson of Sharad Pawar, is in the election battle against BJP’s Ram Shinde from Karjat-Jamkhed seat.

Confrontation between husband and wife in Kannada

The Kannada constituency of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will see a unique contest, where independent candidate Harshvardhan Jadhav is contesting against his ex-wife and Shiv Sena candidate Sanjana Jadhav. Sanjana is the daughter of BJP leader and former Union Minister Raosaheb Danve. Sanjana Jadhav’s brother Santosh Danve is contesting from Bhokardan in Jalna as a BJP candidate.

The Deshmukh family also in the electoral race

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh’s son and Congress candidate Amit Deshmukh and his brother Dheeraj Deshmukh are contesting from the Latur City and Latur Rural seats respectively.

The Rane family also faces an electoral fight

BJP MP and former Chief Minister Narayan Rane’s son Nitish Rane and Nilesh Rane are contesting from Kudal and Kankavali seats as Shiv Sena and BJP candidates respectively.

Thackeray family election contest

Members of the Thackeray family are also participating in the election fray for different seats in Mumbai. Sitting Shiv Sena MP Aditya Thackeray (Uddhav Balsaheb Thackeray) is contesting re-election from the Worli seat. At the same time, his aunt’s son Varun Sardesai is contesting from the Vandre (East) assembly seat on the Shiv Sena ticket. Amit Thackeray, Aditya’s cousin and son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, is contesting from the Mahim seat.

Election contest between Ganesh Naik and his son

BJP candidate Ganesh Naik is contesting from the Airoli seat, while his son Sandeep Naik is contesting from the Belapur seat on the NCP-SP ticket.

The Gavit family in the electoral field

Similarly, Maharashtra minister Vijaykumar Gavit and his daughter and former MP Hina Gavit are also in the election fray. Minister Vijaykumar Gavit is contesting from Nandurbar seat as a BJP candidate, while his daughter Hina Gavit is contesting from Akkalkuva seat as an independent candidate.

Election contest between Bhujbal and Patil family

NCP minister Chhagan Bhujbal and his nephew Sameer Bhujbal are also in the fray. Chhagan Bhujbal is contesting from Yeola seat, while Sameer Bhujbal is contesting as an independent candidate from Nandgaon seat. Meanwhile, NCP-SP state chief Jayant Patil is contesting from Islampur, while his nephew and former Maharashtra minister Prajakta Tanpure is contesting from Rahuri on the party ticket.

Shelar family in the electoral field

BJP Mumbai unit president Ashish Shelar and his brother Vinod Shelar are contesting from Vandre (West) and Malad West seats respectively.

Hambarde family electoral contest

In Nanded, Santukrao Humbarde and his brother Mohanrao Humbarde are also competing against each other in the election fray. Santukrao Hambarde is contesting the by-election from the Nanded Lok Sabha seat, while Mohanrao Hambarde is contesting from the Nanded South Assembly seat on the Congress ticket.
