Lucknow: The UP Council of Ministers under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday decided to prepare a policy to start diploma and certification courses in the field of animal husbandry and paraveterinary medicine in the state. This initiative aims to strengthen veterinary services in rural areas and increase the number of paraveterinarians trained in veterinary sciences. Under this new policy, diploma and certification courses in animal husbandry can be carried out in private and government institutions of the state, which will help in necessary training and skill development of paravets.

Giving this information at Lok Bhavan on Monday, State Livestock Minister Dharampal Singh said that the role of paravets is very important in rural areas because the number of veterinarians is limited here. There are approximately 34,500 veterinarians across the country, while currently there are only 8,193 veterinarians available in Uttar Pradesh. Due to this shortage, paravets often have to play a supporting role under the supervision of veterinarians in tasks such as vaccinations, wound dressing, first aid and care. Paravets are designed to provide animal health services in rural areas, but face a number of challenges due to lack of resources and inadequate training.
Government emphasis on training and skill development of Paravats
The Minister of Livestock said that in view of the need to increase the training and skills of the Paravets to provide better animal health services, the Yogi government has decided to train them through diploma courses and certificates. Under this policy, paravets will receive training in vaccinations, first aid, wound care and other essential aspects of animal health services. This step will provide a new direction in the field of livestock and paraveterinary medicine and will empower paraveterinarians professionally.

He said the major institutes working in the field of animal husbandry in the state are Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya University of Veterinary Sciences and Mathura Cow Research Institute. Apart from this, Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut also run veterinary colleges. Now the norms for affiliation to private colleges will be set by these universities, so that livestock and paraveterinary courses can also be taught in the private sector.
A committee of experts was formed for the implementation of the policy.
The Yogi government has constituted a four-member expert committee under the chairmanship of Special Secretary, Livestock Department to prepare the policy. The committee prepared a report after a detailed study, on the basis of which a policy was formulated for courses related to paraveterinary medicine and animal husbandry in the state. Under this policy, affiliation of institutions, uniformity of courses and determination of standards will be carried out.
The delivery of courses in the private sector will be promoted
According to the Minister of Livestock, this policy of the yogi government will not be limited only to government institutions, but it will also be possible to teach these courses in private schools. This measure will increase the number of paraveterinarians in rural areas and allow them to contribute more to veterinary services. This decision of the state government will also provide new employment opportunities in the livestock and agricultural sector of the state. This decision by the Yogi government will mark a new direction in the livestock sector and increase the quality of veterinary services in rural areas.
