Chandigarh News, Chandigarh, Sanjay Arora Chandigarh An important District Level Monitoring and Advisory Committee meeting was organized in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation under the leadership of Hon’ble MP (Lok Sabha) Manish Tiwari. The meeting brought together a diverse group of city officials and representatives to assess progress and address challenges associated with various national schemes including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and Affordable Rental Housing Schemes (ARHS ). .

Presiding over the session, Shri Tiwari gave a thorough review of these schemes, each of which plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of the citizens of Chandigarh. The focus was primarily on developing a comprehensive rehabilitation policy for residents of resettlement colonies, addressing their housing needs and ensuring access to basic services and infrastructure. Tiwari emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to uplift these communities, suggesting that such policy should go beyond housing and include health, education and skills development, promoting self-reliance and long-term sustainability.

The discussion began with an overview of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), an initiative to provide affordable housing for the low-income group. Officials discussed the need to accelerate housing projects, streamline processes and increase access for eligible citizens. Tiwari encouraged the Municipal Corporation to remove bottlenecks and prioritize expediting the delivery of these housing units, to ensure that the needy get immediate assistance.

Addressing sanitation and hygiene efforts under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Committee considered progress in improving public sanitation, solid waste management and sanitation infrastructure. Shri Tiwari appreciated the efforts of the Corporation so far to promote innovative approaches to waste processing and public awareness campaigns to promote a culture of cleanliness. Improving healthcare facilities was described as essential to maintain Chandigarh’s public health and hygiene standards, especially in underserved areas. When discussing the Affordable Rental Housing Schemes (ARHS), the importance of providing safe and affordable housing for low-income and immigrant families was highlighted. The MP emphasized the role of affordable rental housing in ensuring economic stability for these groups, suggesting that ARHS can be the cornerstone in making Chandigarh inclusive for all, including those who contribute to its vibrant workforce.

Deputy Commissioner of UT Chandigarh, Mayor of Chandigarh, Municipal Corporation, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Chief Engineers, Smt. Kamlesh Banarsi Das (Former Mayor) and Shri DPS Former respected officials like Randhawa (Former President of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association) were present during the meeting.

Tiwari closed the meeting by reiterating the need for active coordination between all departments to achieve the objectives set by these programs. He highlighted the importance of regular assessment to identify potential challenges early and ensure that residents of Chandigarh benefit from timely and effective public services.
