A case of medical negligence has come to light in a private hospital in Greater Noida, where a 7-year-old boy underwent surgery on his right eye even though he had a problem in his left eye. The child’s family has stated this. District officials said they have not yet received a formal complaint in this regard. The operation was carried out on November 12 at the hospital located in the Gamma 1 sector of the city. The family contacted local police on Thursday. However, officials confirmed that neither the police nor the district health department have received any official complaint.

According to the family, the boy was taken to Ananda Spectrum Hospital on Tuesday after he complained of watering in his left eye. The boy’s father, Nitin Bhati, told reporters that the doctors suggested surgery to treat his son’s eye problem (a foreign body entered the eye) and charged Rs 45,000 for the treatment. He said that after treatment, doctors also showed him a photograph of a plastic object that had reportedly been removed from the boy’s eye.
But when they returned home, Bhati said, his wife noticed that the operation had been performed on the boy’s right eye instead of the left. Amid the chaos at the hospital, officials from the local Beta 2 police station arrived at the center to mediate between the concerned doctor and the child’s family.
I guarantee that the child will be fine in 5 days – Doctor
Responding to the claims, the doctor in question said: “I just made a mistake left and right. That’s my mistake. I accept my mistake.” The doctor tried to calm the child’s worried parents and said, “I fully guarantee that the child will be fine in just 5 days.” “This is not a minor mistake,” Bhati said.
An official at the Beta 2 police station said mediation efforts were inconclusive. “We have not yet received any formal complaint from the family,” the officer said. When contacted, district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma and chief medical officer Sunil Kumar Sharma also said that they had not received any complaint so far. “Whenever we receive such a complaint, an investigation is immediately launched into the matter. However, so far we have not been officially informed of anything,” Sharma said. There has been no response from Ananda Spectrum Hospital on this matter. (with language inputs)
