A local court sentenced Kanti Devi, 45, to life imprisonment in a murder case that occurred two years ago in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. Kanti Devi was accused of plotting and carrying out the murder of her husband. His youngest daughter was also involved in this incident. The convicted wife was fed up with her husband’s habit of not letting her leave the house, so she and her youngest daughter conspired to commit murder.

This case dates back to August 27, 2022, when Kanti Devi, along with her 17-year-old daughter, attacked her husband with a sharp weapon in Kapsia village under Sikandrarau police station area in Hathras. The seriously injured husband was admitted to an Aligarh hospital for treatment, where he died two days later. The matter came to light when the couple’s 18-year-old son filed a police report. The son’s testimony played an important role in the case and was considered conclusive evidence by the court.

According to the police investigation and the charge sheet, there were regular disputes between the couple. Kanti Devi was accused of “immoral activities” by her husband and was prevented from leaving the house. Angered by these things, Kanti Devi and her daughter plotted to commit murder. The court found Kanti Devi guilty and sentenced her to life imprisonment. At the same time, her youngest daughter’s case continues in juvenile court. Apart from the life sentence, Kanti Devi will also have to pay a fine of Rs 25,000. If he does not do so, he must serve an additional sentence of six months.
Angered by the objections, a conspiracy to kill was hatched.
The prosecution presented to the court all the details of the murder conspiracy based on compelling evidence and testimony. The chargesheet emphasized that the woman and her daughter had conspired to kill the man after becoming angry over his objections. This incident points to violence arising from family disputes. Experts believe that in these cases communication and family counseling are necessary to avoid incidents of this type.
