Amid growing tension over the rights of the minority community in Bangladesh, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a prominent Hindu community priest and religious minority leader, was arrested on Monday. The ISKCON temple side said that Chinmoy Prabhu was allegedly arrested by officers of the Dhaka Police Detective Branch at the Dhaka airport. Chinmoy Krishna Das is a prominent leader of the celibate Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Manch and president of Pundarik Dham of ISKCON Chittagong. People also know him by the name Chinmoy Prabhu. ISKCON has more than 77 temples in Bangladesh and more than 50,000 people are associated with this organization. He is also a member of Bangladesh Samilit Sanatan Jagran Jote Group. He is also associated with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and has also been a spokesperson for ISKCON.
The minority Hindu community in Bangladesh constitutes approximately 8% of the total population. This community has been a victim of religious discrimination and violence for a long time. Members of the Hindu community are reportedly facing targeted attacks and killings. Many times temples have also been damaged in these attacks. Chinmay Prabhu is fighting this. Chinmoy Prabhu especially considered that the three temples of Chittagong were in danger, for the protection of which some people from the Muslim community were working along with the Hindu community. While talking to Aaj Tak, he said, “Three temples in Chittagong are in danger, but the Hindu community, along with some people from the Muslim community, have saved them so far.” He claimed that the Hindu community is seeking help from the police and the Rapid Action Battalion in Chittagong, but has not received any response from them. Chinmoy Prabhu had said, “Many Hindus and other minorities feel insecure and flee to India via West Bengal and Tripura.”

The situation is worsening after the arrest of Chinmay Krishnan Das, President of ISKCON Pundarik Dham, Chittagong, Bangladesh. However, these peaceful gatherings were brutally attacked by extremist groups. Islamic groups attacked members of the Hindu community in Chittagong. During a peaceful gathering in Dhaka’s Shahbag, members of the Hindu community and Chittagong University professor Kushal Baran were attacked, leaving him seriously injured. Many people were seriously injured in the attack by extremist groups and had to be admitted to hospital.
