Seven more people have been arrested for their involvement in the incident of vandalism and arson that took place at the residences of MLAs in Manipur’s Imphal Valley on November 16. Following this incident, the police have arrested a total of 41 people. Three people were arrested in Kakching district on Friday, bringing the number of people arrested in this case to 41 so far.

“Identification of suspects using CCTV”

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Friday said the suspects involved in looting the properties of ministers and MLAs during the November 16 protest have been identified and legal action has been initiated against them. He said the suspects have been identified through CCTV and action is being taken. “In the name of the democratic movement, some gangs looted and set fire to the houses of ministers and MLAs. I am ashamed to say that such incidents are happening in Manipur,” the Chief Minister told reporters.

Minister increased the security of the house.

Recently, news came that a minister from Manipur had prepared a barbed wire fence and iron net around his ancestral house located in Imphal East district to protect himself from mob attack. In addition, measures have also been taken to build temporary shelters for security forces. Manipur Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution L. Susindro Meitei’s ancestral house in Khurai was attacked by a mob on November 16. The minister said his properties were attacked on November 16 for the third time since the attack on May 3 last year.

An angry mob had vandalized the houses of several MLAs on November 16. Referring to the incident, Susindro said: “I was not present in the house that day. In the afternoon a large number of women and men came and my relatives spoke to them and then they left.” The minister said: “At around 6:30 in the afternoon, about 3,000 people tried to enter my house and opened fire. Security forces including BSF personnel asked me what should be done in this situation and I told them not to cause any harm to the crowd. However, they fired bullets into the air to disperse them.”
