Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has criticized the change in the rules of the selection process for the new DGP in Uttar Pradesh. He said arrangements are being made to extend the tenure of the new DGP by two years. The question is whether those who create the system will stay for two years or not.
Yogi Cabinet approved new rules for selection of new DGP of UP. There is also a point regarding the tenure of the DGP, in which it has been said that the tenure of the Director General of Police will be two years. Akhilesh Yadav has criticized Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding this. He said the question is whether those who created this system will stay for two years or not.

Akhilesh Yadav further said that this is not an attempt to take the reins away from Delhi. He has described the change in DGP selection as ‘Delhi vs Lucknow 2.0’.
The Yogi government changed the rules, now the UP committee will select the new DGP, not the Centre.
In fact, the SP president has been saying since the Lok Sabha election results that all is not well in the BJP. There is an internal rift between UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior BJP leaders in Delhi. Similarly, when differences arose between Keshav Prasad Maurya and CM Yogi, Akhilesh called it a fight between Lucknow and Delhi.
Now how will the UP DGP be selected?
As per the new rule, a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of a retired High Court judge to select the new UP DGP. This committee will select the permanent DGP from among the UP Chief Secretary, a UPSC nominee, the UPPSC Chairman or the nominee, the Home Principal Secretary, a retired DGP who has served in the UP Police. The tenure of the DGPs designated in the new system will be 2 years.
