- Three-day women’s self-defense camp ends at CU Dehra campus
(Dharamshala News) Today Samaj-Dharamshala. During the three-day women’s self-defense camp held at the Dehra campus of Central University of Himachal Pradesh, the participating students learned self-defence tactics.
At the end of the camp, the participants were honored with certificates. Students from the Department of Social Work gave many presentations. This program was started with the inauguration by Dr. Shashi Poonam, Head of the Department of Social Work.
This three-day women’s self-defense camp was organized at Dehra Central University under the leadership of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club and Dehra Police Department.
Prof. Dean of the Faculty of Visual Arts was the chief guest of the program. Nirupama Singh and Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Sanjeet Singh Thakur were present. Following this, Dr. Shashi Poonam, Head of Social Work Department, welcomed everyone from the stage and while expressing her views, highlighted the features of this three-day women’s self-defense camp. Shivendra, a student of the Department of Social Work, recited her self-composed poem on women empowerment, which inspired the audience.
Constable Atul Sharma then demonstrated the basic self-defense skills taught over the three days, such as punching, blocking, finger attacks and kicks.
She expressed her opinion on women’s safety and also shared the women’s helpline number.
As a special guest, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Sanjit Singh Thakur presented his views on women empowerment.
He compared women to goddesses and said that in our society women are worshiped. Women were compared to Durga, the goddess of power, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Saraswati, the goddess of learning.
Researchers Yukta Tomar, Babita Sharma, Shailja, Ravindra Negi, Priya Rani, Shruti Kashyap, Ishani, Abhirami, Arsha, Binny, Atrika of the third semester, Priyanka, Abhilasha, Monica, Arshida, Jyoti and Samishtha of the first semester participated in the program . . Shailja, a researcher at the Department of Social Work, presented a song on women empowerment. Certificates were later awarded to participants who successfully completed the three-day training.
Concluding the program Prof. Nirupama Singh’s speech, in which she encouraged women to increase self-confidence and empower themselves. At the end, Dr. Shweta Sharma, faculty member of the Department of Social Work, gave the vote of thanks and expressed her gratitude to all the colleagues and participants.
