Mamata Banerjee’s Congress will protest on a large scale on November 30 against the Waqf Amendment Bill. During this period, more than 2 lakh people will be on the streets. MP Kalyan Banerjee will be the keynote speaker at this protest. Along with this, the Mamata government has also prepared to move a proposal against the Waqf Amendment Bill. The Waqf Amendment Bill was introduced in Parliament a few months ago. However, after much opposition, it was sent to a parliamentary committee. The mandate of the parliamentary committee was extended until the last day of the winter session. Now, after the parliamentary committee’s report, the necessary changes will be made and it will be presented again. The Trinamool Congress has opposed this bill from the beginning and now the party has decided to oppose this law on a large scale.
West Bengal Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay on Monday said that a resolution will be tabled in the state assembly against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. However, the date is yet to be decided. Chatterjee claimed that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is divisive and can lead to marginalization of minorities and violation of their rights. Addressing reporters on the first day of the winter session of the West Bengal Assembly, he said the date for tabling the resolution in the Assembly against the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill has not yet been decided. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has repeatedly opposed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
Waqf Amendment Bill to be introduced in winter session
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Center has listed 16 bills, including the Waqf Amendment Bill, for consideration in the winter session of Parliament that began on Monday. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 aims to amend the Waqf Act, 1995 to address the issues and challenges faced in the regulation and management of Waqf properties. The amendment bill aims to reform the administration and management of waqf properties in India.
The rally will be held in Calcutta.
West Bengal government minister and Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim on Monday said the TMC’s minority cell will hold a rally in the city on November 30 to protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. This rally will take place on Rani Rasmani Avenue in the city. Hakim and other prominent leaders of the minority cell will also take part in the demonstration.
