A powerful typhoon that hit the northern Philippines destroyed many houses on Sunday. Debris has accumulated on the road due to Typhoon Man-Yi in the northern Philippines. Due to the high waves raised in the sea due to the storm, thousands of people living nearby have to live in relief camps. This is the sixth storm to hit the country in a month.
Typhoon Man-Yi made landfall in the eastern island province of Catanduanes in the Philippines on Saturday night. Typhoon Man-yi hit the eastern island province with strong winds of between 195 and 240 kilometers per hour. Because of this, the country’s meteorological agency issued a danger warning in storm-prone areas. Millions of people were told to go to emergency shelters.
Power outage in Catanduanes province due to storm
According to the Philippine Meteorological Agency, there are no reports of casualties due to the storm. Trees have been uprooted, power lines have fallen and homes have been flooded. According to the Meteorological Department, although the densely populated capital city of Metropolitan Manila was spared from the devastation of the typhoon, it also remained under a typhoon warning, along with the outer areas. The Department of Meteorology has warned of dangerous coastal storms in these areas.
At the same time, authorities said there was no electricity throughout Catanduanes province due to downed trees and power poles due to the storm. He said the number of homes damaged by the storm is being assessed. So far, about half of the island province’s 80,000 residents have taken refuge in relief centres. Social Welfare Undersecretary Irene Dumlao said that due to Man-yi and the previous two typhoons, around 4 lakh people have taken shelter in churches, shopping malls and relief centres.
Officials must be prepared for the worst situation – Government
Because of this, the Philippines may have to import more rice. Because it is the staple food of most people living in the Philippines. At the same time, an emergency meeting was called regarding Storm Man-Yi. In this regard, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has asked the cabinet and provincial officials to be prepared for the worst situation. According to civil aviation agencies, 26 domestic airports and two international airports were temporarily closed.
