The by-elections will be held on November 13 at the Meerapur assembly seat in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The local population has been demanding a local candidate for a long time. Not only this, voters have even talked about boycotting outside candidates and not voting for them, but except Zahid Hussain of Azad Samaj Party and Shahnazar of Bahujan Samaj Party, this time too the major parties have fielded only outside candidates.
In this by-election, Lok Dal candidate Mithilesh Pal of NDA, Sumbul Rana of Samajwadi Party and Arshad Rana of AIMIM are contesting the elections.
According to political experts, even though there are local candidates from Azad Samaj Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, there is a contest for this seat between Lok Dal candidate Mithilesh Pal and Samajwadi Party candidate Sumbul Rana.
Let us tell you that before delimitation in 2012, there used to be a Morna assembly here, but after delimitation, where the Morna assembly came to an end, Meerapur became the new assembly.
According to political experts, in all the elections held in this seat since 1985, the residents here did not win a single local representative.
This seat was won by Saidujjama of Congress in 1985, Amir Alam of Janata Dal in 1989, Rampal Saini of BJP in 1991, Rampal Saini of BJP in 1993, Sanjay Singh of SP in 1996, Rajpal Saini of BSP in 2002, Qadir of Lok. Dal in 2007. Rana, Mithlesh Pal of Lok Dal in 2009, Maulana Jamil of BSP in 2012, Avtar Singh Bhadana of BJP in 2017 and Chandan Singh Chauhan of Lok Dal in 2022 have been MLAs.
