The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed that it is in contact with Washington to clarify the issues. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian companies banned by the US are not violating Indian laws and are in touch with the US to clarify the issues.

The ministry also revealed that it is coordinating with departments related to banned companies, so that companies included in the sanctions are aware of the rules related to exports.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Jaiswal said work is being done with all relevant departments and agencies to sensitize Indian companies about the applicable export control provisions.

The United States has imposed sanctions on nearly 300 companies and individuals, including more than 19 Indian companies, which it claims have supplied products supporting the Russian military.

The announcement was made by the United States Treasury and the Department of State, describing these entities as “supporters of third countries.” However, there has been no independent verification of the involvement of these Indian companies in enhancing Russia’s military capabilities.

Many of the 19 Indian companies included in the global sanctions targeting more than 400 companies are primarily engaged in commercial activities, purchasing Western equipment, including electronic products, and selling them to Russian companies affected by these sanctions.

For example, Danavas Services, which mainly supplies digital kiosks for various services, has Russian citizens as directors and shareholders. It is legal for Indian companies to hire foreign nationals for such roles and there are no restrictions preventing them from working with Russian entities.

However, the company has been criticized by the United States for advanced conventional weapons used by Russia. It is supposedly the source of manufactured microelectronics. The only company on the sanctions list with limited involvement in the Indian defense sector is RRG Engineering.

Accused of sending weapons to Russia

This company has collaborated with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and has supplied non-critical products to some services. RRG is accused of sending more than 100 shipments of microelectronics to the Russia-based company Artex Limited, which has been designated by the United States.

Records show that RRG has previously provided manpower to DRDO labs for projects related to data center and IT network setup.

In addition, it has supplied a limited number of nuclear, biological and chemical warfare detectors to various military services and is said to be involved in satellite communications stations. Industry sources suggest that such equipment is easily available in India and can be easily procured if required.
