In Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, a criminal has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a Dalit girl and making an obscene video go viral on social media. Special Judge (SC-ST Act) Sanjay Mishra on Monday convicted Jalandhar Rai, 34, and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on him. This incident occurred on January 11, 2020.
Deputy District Government Prosecutor (ADGC) Phanindra Kumar Tripathi said that the accused Jalandhar Rai took the victim girl to a secluded place. There he made her a victim of his lust. He also made an objectionable video of his act. After this it was uploaded to social media and went viral. Not only this, he also threatened to kill the girl.
The prosecution said that after a few days the victim girl came to know about the obscene video. She was shocked when the video went viral and was defamed. Following this, he committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on the outskirts of the village, below the Nichlaul police station area. The girl’s father filed a complaint, after which a case was opened against the accused.
Based on the complaint of the victim’s father, a case was registered against the accused under sections 376 (rape), 506 (threat), 306 (incitement to suicide) and 554 (assault with intent to outrage her modesty). ) of the CPI. Along with this, provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were also imposed.
ADGC said special judge Sanjay Mishra found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the culprit. He said: “In case of non-payment of fine, your sentence will be extended by one month as per the court order.” The aggrieved party has expressed its satisfaction with this decision of the court.
