A class 12 student committed suicide by jumping from the historical place Jam Gate in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh. School authorities objected to his use of a mobile phone and his attempt to take selfies on campus. Raj Osari, a 17-year-old tribal student studying in a government higher secondary school at Gulwad in Mandaleshwar area and living in a government hostel, committed suicide on Thursday afternoon. His relatives and a guard tried to stop him but could not prevent it.
Khargone district superintendent of police Dharamraj Meena said, “Raj jumped from the gate and was later found in a ditch. When he tried to jump, his family members and the security guard deployed at the spot stopped him from doing so.” to do so, but he did not listen to them and took this step.” He was shifted to Mandaleshwar government hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, the official said.

The student was a resident of Kakad Khodri village in Mandaleshwar area. Jitendra Osari, the uncle of the deceased, said in his statement to the police that hostel superintendent Prakash Girwal had called him and complained about Raj’s use of mobile phone in school. He said the school’s principal, KC Saand, had on Wednesday objected to Raj taking selfies at school. At this, Raj threatened to commit suicide or run away from school. The principal then asked the hostel superintendent to call Raj’s family and resolve the matter. But when his relatives Krishna and his son Ganesh come to meet him at school, Raj runs away. Everyone went to look for him, but they couldn’t find him. Later, Raj reached the school and the hostel superintendent immediately informed his family.
The officer said they reached the hostel again at 9:30 pm, but Raj escaped by jumping over the boundary wall of the hostel. He said he returned to school late at night and escaped from the hostel after having breakfast on Thursday morning. The director asked the staff to catch him, but they couldn’t do it. His mobile phone has also been recovered at the scene.
He called his brother-in-law at the door of the traffic jam and then jumped into the ditch.
Raj called his brother-in-law in Jam Gate and told him that he was going to commit suicide. His brother-in-law and security personnel immediately arrived to arrest him, but the student did not agree. He threatened to jump if anyone came near. Despite several attempts, Raj did not listen to anyone and finally jumped into the deep pit.
The SP said that based on the investigation so far, there is a possibility that he took this step out of fear of being scolded by his family members. He said the police are investigating the matter thoroughly as there could be some other motive behind the incident. (with language inputs)
