Patna: The Bihar government on Thursday informed the state assembly that the Patna Metro will start providing services from Independence Day next year. Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary gave this information while presenting the second supplementary budget of Rs 32,506 crore for the current financial year in the Assembly. The Assembly approved the second supplementary budget for the financial year 2023-24 by oral vote in the absence of opposition members. Opposition members had staged a strike over alleged irregularities in the implementation of plans by the Social Welfare Department.
“The supplementary budget of Rs 32,506 crore will be utilized for effective implementation of various schemes of the central and Bihar governments in the state,” Choudhary said. This amount will complete the first phase of the Patna Metro Rail project. Patna Metro will start its operations from Independence Day next year…” He said that this fund will also be utilized for development of various projects related to tourism department including development of ‘Tourist Centre’ at the Kaimur district. Choudhary said, “The fund will be used for implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Universal Primary Education (UEE), National Rural Health Mission Programme, Prime Minister Shri Yojana, etc.”
Apart from this, the fund will also be used for the development of other infrastructure projects in the state. The initial phase of the Patna Metro project consists of two corridors, the North-South Corridor and the East-West Corridor. The Assembly also approved by oral vote the second supplementary demand of Rs 3,028 crore of the State Social Welfare Department for expenditure in the current financial year.
Madan Sahni harshly criticized the conduct of opposition parties
Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahni, while responding to the debate on the departmental supplementary demand of Rs 3,028 crore, strongly criticized the conduct of the opposition parties and said: “The opposition parties are against the poor and socially weakest members of society. Why Even after participating in the debate, he left the Chamber when the supplementary demand was being approved.” He said the state government has launched many welfare schemes to uplift and protect women, children, disabled, elderly and other disadvantaged sections of the society.
