Chandigarh Sanjay Arora Chandigarh Panjab University (PU) today organized the white coat ceremony for the new batch of undergraduate (BDS) and postgraduate (MDS) students at Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute and Hospital of Dental Sciences. With the white coat ceremony, around 215 undergraduate and graduate students began their academic career, marking the students’ formal entry into the noble profession of dentistry, symbolizing their commitment to excellence in patient care and ethical practice. The highlight of the event was the ceremony itself, where each student ceremoniously donned their white coat, which was presented to them by the dignitaries on stage.

Students then recited the professional oath (Charak Oath), pledging to maintain honesty, integrity, and a lifelong commitment to learning and patient care. The event was attended by Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, Prof. (Dr.) Raev Sood; PU Registrar Prof. YP Varma; Professor Savita Bhatnagar, director, research and development cell, PU; PU Examination Controller Prof. Jagat Bhushan and Dental College Principal Dr. Deepak Gupta. The prestigious function was also attended by professors from the Dental Institute and parents of the students.

In his speech, Dr. Rajeev Sood highlighted the transformative changes in education under the National Education Policy (NEP). He emphasized the shift from qualification-oriented education towards skill refinement and encouraged students to embrace innovation, research and the integration of AI in healthcare.

Guest of honor Professor YP Verma spoke about the white coat that symbolizes trust. Drawing inspiration from ancient wisdom, it inspires students to pursue knowledge as a foundation for a virtuous and fulfilling career journey. Professor Savita Bhatnagar, Director, Research and Development Cell, urged the students to foster their professional development with compassion and dedication, while preparing them to face the challenges and joys of a career in dentistry.

Earlier, the program began with a warm welcome and an inspiring speech by Principal Dr. Deepak Gupta, who emphasized the symbolic importance of the white coat. He described it as a representation of professionalism, empathy and dedication to the art and science of dentistry. Parents and students also learned about the institute’s state-of-the-art facilities, its experienced faculty, and its inclusive learning environment designed to foster academic and personal growth.
