Only 33 percent vote in Ghaziabad
Earlier, voting began at 7 am at the state headquarters of Katehri, Karhal, Meerapur, Ghaziabad, Majhwan, Sisamau, Khair, Phulpur and Kundarki. All voters who arrived at the polling station at 5:00 p.m. were able to cast their vote. According to the electoral commission, as of five in the afternoon, 49.30 percent of the votes were held. Till 5 pm, 33.30 per cent of voting was done in Ghaziabad, 56.69 per cent in Katehari, 46.35 per cent in Khair, 57.32 per cent in Kundarki, 53.92 percent in Karhal, 50.41 percent in Majhwan, 57.02 percent in Mirapur, 43.43 percent in Phulpur and 49.03 percent in Sisamau. According to the Commission, the voting took place peacefully and no untoward incident was reported anywhere. But the main opposition party, the Samajwadi Party (SP), alleged fraud in the elections. SP president Akhilesh Yadav, while sharing a video on ‘X’, said, “Some police officers are completely working as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers. They are threatening voters and also raising hands on them. Also They threaten to beat them with sticks. At the same time, they are establishing their influence by even boosting the news channels. The said official must be identified and suspended immediately.” He appealed to the Election Commission to take immediate notice of the video evidence and take action. punitive measures and guarantee a fair electoral process.
Five police officers suspended
Taking into account this appeal by Akhilesh Yadav, the Election Commission took action. The Commission on Wednesday ordered the suspension of at least five police officers and the dismissal of several others from electoral duties for preventing voters from casting their votes. Following the instructions of the Commission, the district election officials and superintendents of police, after verifying the complaints, suspended the said police officers for their conduct. Election Commission officials said two sub-inspectors have been suspended for “non-compliance” with the commission’s guidelines while checking voters in Muzaffarnagar. Officials said a thorough investigation was carried out in view of complaints received regarding verification of voters’ identity cards by police personnel in Moradabad. He said these cases were related to Bhikanpur Kulwara and Milak Siri villages. He said that in this regard, a sub-inspector, two police chiefs and two policewomen were removed from their electoral duties and put in danger.
Maximum 14 candidates in Ghaziabad
Of the nine seats where by-elections are being held, eight have fallen vacant due to resignation of sitting Assembly MLAs after being elected to the Lok Sabha, while in Sisamau, Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA , Irfan Solanki, has been elected in criminal case. Partial elections are held due to cancellation of their membership in the assembly. In total, 90 candidates are in the running in the by-elections. A maximum of 14 candidates were in fray from Ghaziabad assembly constituency. At the same time, at least five candidates were trying their luck in the seats of Khair (safe) and Sisamau.
