Mushal Hussain Malik, wife of separatist Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front leader Yasin Malik, who is jailed on treason charges, has written a letter to Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. In the letter, Mushal said that Yasin Malik can play an important role in establishing peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mushal, former aide to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, also mentioned in the letter that a trial is underway against Yasin Malik in a 30-year-old treason case, in which the National Investigation Agency has demanded his punishment. of death. Malik himself is arguing this case before the Delhi High Court.
Lower court awarded life sentence
In this case, the NIA had filed a charge sheet against Malik and other accused in 2017. In 2022, a lower court sentenced Malik to life imprisonment. Mushal has written in the letter that Malik has been on indefinite hunger strike since November 2 to protest against the inhumane treatment in jail, which is adversely affecting his health.
Mushal alleged that the Indian government has been torturing her husband in various ways since 2019. Accusing the Indian government, she said that Malik is being prosecuted for waging war in a case dating back 35 years and now the NIA has demanded the punishment. of death on new charges.
Yasin Malik will help bring peace to Kashmir
In a letter written to the Congress leader, Mushal said he should use his influence to initiate a discussion in Parliament on the Yasin Malik case. In the letter, Mushal stated that if Yasin Malik is released from jail, he will join. the Kashmir Valley. It can play an important role in establishing peace.
