Air quality index of 10 cities crosses 500 due to fireworks on Diwali
Chandigarh News (Aaj Samaj) Chandigarh: It has become difficult to breathe in Haryana. Earlier, farmers faced problems due to stubble burning in the fields. Now, due to fireworks on Diwali night, air pollution has increased once again. The air quality index of about 10 cities in the state has exceeded 500. If the situation continues like this, the government will have to impose a health emergency throughout the state. Only then will the situation improve. The government had issued a fireworks advisory for only two hours, but firecrackers were exploded from 7 p.m. to 12 noon. This worsened the pollution situation.
Haryana has become a gas chamber. The situation is worse in Hisar and Kurukshetra. Here the particles have crossed 2.5 and PM 10-500. It is so dangerous that even a healthy person can get sick after leaving home. While in Ambala, Faridabad, Gurugram, Jind, Panchkula, Rohtak, Yamunanagar, Hisar and Kurukshetra the air quality index has crossed 500.
Breathing air with an air quality index above 400 is equivalent to smoking 25 to 30 cigarettes.
The level of air pollution in Haryana has increased so much that people’s eyes get irritated even while walking on the road. Doctors believe that breathing air with an air quality index above 400 is equivalent to smoking 25 to 30 cigarettes a day. Now it can be inferred that pollution in the state has reached very bad levels. According to the Health Effects Institute report, 80 lakh deaths occurred worldwide in 2021 due to air pollution. This is more than deaths from Covid 19. We were worried about Covid, but not about pollution.
