Is admission to medical college through NEET UG 2024 merit-based and transparent or not? The National Medical Commission (NMC) has sought details from all medical colleges about students taking admission in the first year of the MBBS program for the academic session 2024-25.
Medical colleges and institutions will have to enter the details of students taking admission in medical courses through an online system, which can be accessed at nmc.org.in. The university authorities are required to provide details of all students who will take admission in MBBS during the current academic year 2024-25. Admission is mandatory under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2024. Medical colleges will have to ensure that admissions to medical courses under the NMC Act, 2019 are strictly merit-based, transparent and fair.
NMC has launched an online tracking system to promote transparency and accountability in medical education. All medical colleges or institutes will be required to submit admission details of their students by noon on November 8, 2024 through a unique login ID.
Before admitting MBBS course, colleges should keep these things in mind:
1. NMC has directed medical colleges to determine admission criteria including acceptable entry capacity, eligibility, age limit, qualifications and general counselling.
2. The age to apply for admission in MBBS should not be less than 17 years before 31st December.
3. It is necessary to have passed 12th grade.
4. Must be qualified as NEET UG.
5. General category candidates must have scored 50th percentile or above.
6. The disabled person must obtain the 45th percentile or higher.
7. SC/ST/OBC candidates should have scored 40th percentile or above.
8. All those admitted must attend common counseling as prescribed in the regulations.
Admission to the MBBS course for the academic year 2024-25 must be done following the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 and the selection process based on the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) notified by the Education Regulations Undergraduate Medical 2024.
